Chalkhill Primary School Physical Education (PE)
The aims of Physical Education at Chalkhill Primary School are:
- All pupils experience a wide-ranging and diverse Physical Education curriculum.
- Promote the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and highlight the benefits of physical activity on the body.
- Provide extra-curricular opportunities for pupils to pursue their interests in sport and physical activity.
- Develop children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural experiences through a variety of sporting activities and competitive experiences.
- Enable pupils to work independently and as part of a team in varied activities.
- To establish and develop community with sporting agencies where pupils can further participate and fulfil their sporting potential.
Physical Education at Chalkhill Primary School plays a vital part of everyday school life. All pupils have two hours of PE timetabled each week to cover the six main areas of the National Curriculum:
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Games
- Swimming
- Athletics
- Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Fun, enjoyment, confidence, competence, and self esteem are the forefront of our PE delivery. Children in Nursery, Reception and KS1 develop fundamental skills such as aiming and throwing, balance, co-ordination, control, and master basic movements. In KS2 children refine these fundamental skills to develop further, learn to link them, and transfer them into all areas of learning in PE.
At Chalkhill we aim to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
